The Tuscaloosa Education Foundation (TEF) is seeking an executive director with strong leadership qualities and the knowledge and interest to move the Foundation forward with integrity and enthusiasm. The ideal candidate will have a passion for improving the educational opportunities for students in K-12 schools in the Tuscaloosa City and County School systems, value the role of the nonprofit sector and have the ability to bring stakeholders together in support of public education.

TEF’s mission is to provide support and financial resources  to enhance public education through a partnership with the local school systems.  Serving every school in Tuscaloosa County, TEF is integrally involved in Reading Allies, Neighborhood Bridges, HOPE Institute, and Strings in Schools.  



The Executive Director will report to the President and the Board of Directors and will have a wide range of responsibilities including:

  • Administrative – Manage day to day operation of TEF and its employees.

  • Board of Directors – Work in conjunction with the Board of TEF to set priorities and advance its mission.

  • Financial Management – Responsible for the overall financial management of TEF and ensure fiscal accountability of programs and services.

  • Resource Development – Oversee the expansion and implementation of fund development activities to secure operating revenue and long-term financial stability.

  • Grant Making – Oversee all aspects of its various grantmaking processes and work directly with the Grant Committee to review and make recommendations to the board. Experience in grantmaking software preferred.

  • Public Relations – Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Foundation.

  • Marketing – Plan and coordinate strategies to strengthen the Foundation's outreach to educators, nonprofits, and the public.
     

 Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree, a master’s or higher degree is preferable.

  • Nonprofit and board management and philanthropic experience preferred.

  • Experience in grant making, including grant making software, and the process of allocating grants.

  • Ability to work with a strong and diverse board of directors.

  • Proven fundraising ability.

  • Strong Communication Skills.

  • A visionary, innovative, entrepreneurial, and bold leader.
